BRIEF DESCRIPTION ABOUT DNA
DNA stands for Deoxyribose nucleic acid act as a
genetic material in most organism. It is a long polymer of
deoxyribonucleotides. The Number of nucleotides or base pair present in a DNA
determines its Length.
DNA STRUCTRE AND THEIR
ELEMENTS
James Watson and Francis Crick in 1953 proposed a Double
helix model for DNA structure on the basis of X-ray diffraction.
DNA consist of following elements as follow:
i. A
Pentose Sugar
ii. A
Nitrogenous base
iii. A
Phosphate groups
HOUSEHOLD MATERIALS
REQUIRED
a) Detergent
b) Common
salt
c) Deodorant(ethanol)
d) Test
Tube or glass
e) Water
f) Stop
watch
PROCEDURE
·
First, take a glass or Test Tube.
·
Now add 80-100 ml water on glass.
·
After that add 8-10gm of common
salt on glass
·
Stir it gently and wait for one
minute.
·
Now take this solution in mouth
for two minutes.
·
Take out this solution from mouth
and thus chick cell acquires on solution.
·
Now put it on glass and add 4-5ml
ethanol on it.
OBSERVATION
Now after 10 to 15 minutes we observed that a
white layer start appearing which is DNA of that sample and thus DNA extracted
with the help of household products.
SOME INTERESTING FACTS ON DNA
·
Your DNA could
stretch from the earth to the sun and back ~600 times.
· Every human being shares 99.9% of their DNA with every other human.
·
If you could type 60 words per minute, eight hours a day, it would take
approximately 50 years to type the human genome.
·
You
also share 85% of your DNA with a mouse, 40% with a fruitfly, and 41% with a
banana.
